PlanningBromsgrove District Council, our Local Planning Authority, deals with applications for planning permission. However, Parish Councils have the right to be notified of these applications and can make representations to the Planning and Development Committee of Bromsgrove District Council.

Pictured to the left are Mark Bales and Peter Frampton of Burcot Grange with Cllr Kit Taylor

The PC Planning Committee meets fortnightly when each application is considered, supported by a site visit where necessary, before a decision is made. All Parish Councillors are informed of all applications allowing an opportunity to comment.

We take our role seriously and believe that the advantage of our local knowledge of the parish is an asset in the decision-making process, offering a balanced view when representing all our residents. We also welcome helpful and constructive comments from our residents and will always encourage them to contact Bromsgrove District Council Planning to lodge comments. Another avenue open to all residents is to make contact with their District and/or County Councillors if the circumstances dictate.

The PC Planning Committee members are Cllrs. Jill Harvey/lead, Tony Flynn and Janet King.

Planning is the only group within the Parish Council that has ‘committee status’, which enables it to make decisions on behalf of the Council. This is because the planning system requires responses more rapidly than can be met by the monthly Parish Council meetings.

The Parish Council Planning Committee has, as have other PC’s, been experiencing difficulty with Bromsgrove District Council’s websites recently. The new E-Hub, which is intended to streamline communication between the Parish and District Councils, was supposed to start on April 1st 2010 but is still experiencing difficulties. In the meantime, the Public Access site has its own difficulties including the breakdown of the comment system and over-large files which take too long to download. Residents may have had similar problems, but we have been assured by BDC that they are very much aware of the difficulties and are working to resolve them. In the meantime we are using other means to communicate our decisions.

If you are thinking of undertaking building work please be aware that there have been some changes to planning procedure since April 21st 2010. As part of a county-wide initiative, Bromsgrove District Council has introduced charges for Permitted Development enquiries and Pre-application advice. Please see the BDC website for more information and a good place to start.
