We take our responsibilities seriously and believe that our local knowledge and interactions with residents in the community gives us a good understanding of their needs and are essential when enabling us to provide the best service we can. Our group consists Cllrs Jill Harvey and Janet King, both offering a wealth of valuable experience and knowledge of the parish.
Recreational facilities for teens
Leanne Ling congratulates winner Christina Rasanayagam with an Apple iPod for entering the PC Youth Survey and prize draw. Over 50 survey forms were collected following our questionnaire regarding recreational facilities for 9 to 16 year olds and we are now in the process of analysing the results. Top of the list was skateboard facilities, followed by football posts, seating areas and swimming. We were also pleased to receive comments from parents and other interested people. Emma Woolley, a Ranger from the Lickey Hills Country Park, made the draw for the winner of the Apple iPod shuffle. The lucky winner was Christina Rasanayagam from Station Road, Blackwell. Christina collected her iPod at the last June 2010 Parish Council meeting - congratulations to her and a big thank you to all who took part.
Alice McGlynn and Santa at the Lickey Hills School Christmas Fete.
The annual PC Tree Lightings took place at the Blackwell Methodist Hall 6pm Saturday 3rd Dec followed by a walk to Blackwell First School Christmas Fayre and also at the Trinity Centre, Lickey at 5pm Sunday 5th Dec. List of 2010 winners: Both included carols, the tree lighting and the presentation of the annual PC Schoolchildren's Competition. So good were the enteries, that everyone received a prize for their submission. Plus, of course, Santa who had taken a break from making all the toys at the North Pole. At the Blackwell event Santa had to dig deep to find a twenty-pence piece for the meter before the special lights came on as the snow gently fell on the expectant crowd! The Lickey event also saw The Blackwell Concert Band play their little hearts out whilst we enjoyed mince pies, refreshments and good company. As an extra treat, young Oliver Kletz read his acrostic poem entitled 'Lickey Hills, Enchanted or Wicked?' to an enthralled audience. Oliver, aged 8 years old, won first prize for the Lickey under 7's category of the competition. Here is the full list of the 2010 winners:
Parish Poets Our Parish appears blessed with poetic talent! We thought that Spoz would be a hard act to follow, but we now have two Parish Poets in Residence! We have appointed James Smith from Blackwell, a teacher at a Feckenham school and, in keeping with our policy of reaching out to our younger residents, Jake Perryman, a student at Bromsgrove School. Jake enjoys writing poetry and ‘purple prose’, as well as playing sport. We look forward to working with them both. James has already completed his first commission by penning a moving and well received poem for us, which he read at our recently retired Executive Officer - Judith Casey's leaving party, at the end of March. Going I woke one morning with the quiet word which rang out like a bell inside the word was 'go', But I brought the mufflers out to dampen down that sound I would rather know Preferred to repeat that this was my place and these were the things which in my day, I do. And it was only when I stopped to see that the leaves had gone and the others too, that I knew the clock was up, the hour had come my wanderings and dalliances were done, the blue carpet of flowers was beginning to flood the woods, spring was nearly in and I was left with that word 'go' still in my ears, like the echo of a blackbirds song and I knew there must still be time to take my path, and do what must be done. And so, beneath a sun which folded like a closing blossom I charted my path through the sky, puffed out my chest and flew catapulting my body in a brave proud line into the slipstream, and though I was leaving, I did not cry because that last light caught my shadow and I left it there, with you.
